Martin Conway is a sailing and food enthusiast and has turned this passion into a "Marine Cuisine" TV series awaiting production. He filmed a full 30 minute pilot episode in Dartmouth and Salcombe in the most severe of conditions in mid winter - storm force 10!
With the strange skill of being able to cook in cramped conditions and in turbulent seas he is rubbishing the notion that sailors have to exist on prepackaged convenience foods- irrespective of how much their boat costs!
Martin completed The Rolex Fastnet in 2005 and has been asked to cook on many yachts since. With Martin’s easy natural way of presenting he has also been asked to front up other pilot shows including the award winning ‘My Dad Cooks Best’.
His no nonsense approach to cooking is his way of getting the people who don’t cook (or think they can’t cook)- cooking!
Self taught chef Martin has recently decided to turn his love of cooking into his chosen profession and this summer has been catering at outside events with great reviews, “I thought I would take the plunge full on and try and make my living doing something I really care about and thoroughly enjoy”.
Martin’s style of cooking is British with influences from his travels around Europe, taking the elements he likes from one dish and adding his own style to it. Martin wants to share his easy no nonsense recipes to get many more people interested in food and cooking more “there is far too much reliance on pre-packed junk food when one of my recipes can be made in the same amount of time, spending less money and eating loads better”.
Whilst Martin is content working in a well equipped kitchen and producing a fine dining experience he performs best catering with basic equipment and tools- on a yacht, camping, beach or barbeques. He has the ability to demonstrate the fun and satisfaction of being able to produce an excellent, nourishing meal from limited resources and utensils and usually battling with the great British weather and the challenges that brings! His lively banter and story telling maintains an upbeat atmosphere in an environment which some people would find impossible to work in let alone produce a superb meal!
Martin can be booked for group events and demos and audience participation ensures a light-hearted event which participants will remember as being all about food served with a generous portion of fun!
Martin is currently writing his first recipe book.
